PREREQUISITE:
This retreat is suitable for those who have sat a total of 14 days in silent vipassana retreats.
The teachings, practices and realizations of emptiness have been important themes in Buddhism from the early days of Theravada on through the development of the later Mahayana schools. The Buddha taught that our entire human experience is empty of what can be called a self, and called abiding in emptiness a liberated state of mind. He described sense experience as being empty in the sense of being insubstantial and ephemeral; and this can be experientially understood in the deepening of practice. Finally, there are implications for our meditation practice in exploring the fundamentally empty nature of awareness itself.

In this retreat we will introduce and explore the many meanings and implications of emptiness in Buddhist thought and practice through talks, readings, reflections, guided meditations and group discussions.

To support the study aspect of the retreat, the Dharma talks will focus on the theme of Emptiness, and there will be group discussions regarding this theme. The retreat will include regular sitting and walking periods and will be held in silence apart from the talks, discussions and interviews.
