Tim Geil began practicing Insight Meditation in 1996 and has taught meditation since 2006 under the guidance of Rodney Smith. Through Seattle Insight Meditation Society, he offers talks, classes, interviews, and leads daylong retreats. Tim is currently in the four-year Teacher Training through Spirit Rock and Insight Meditation Society. He has also completed the two-year Dedicated Practitioner Program.

Tim emphasizes three expressions of the Dharma: investigation, non-resistance, and compassion. Our daily lives are the perfect spiritual path for each individual. All that is needed is a willingness to investigate areas of constriction, argument and pain. Those very aspects we avoid reveal areas where we claim ownership and self-identity. This creates separation and suffering. A deep sense of non-resistance and compassion brings balance to investigation. Relaxing fully into this moment?s expression is the essence of non-resistance. Compassion brings sensitivity and an opening of the heart as we connect with ourselves and others.

For nine years, Tim managed non-residential retreats for Seattle Insight and has managed numerous residential retreats at Cloud Mountain. He has facilitated kalyana mitta groups on Death on Dying, Parenting, and Daily Life. Tim has been a hospice volunteer and finds that reflecting on death is a vital spiritual practice. As a bodyworker for the last 19 years, he has worked with people with injuries and chronic pain. Tim has also practiced Aikido for over 25 years which brings a direct understanding of non-resistance and centering.

His relationship with his wife and young daughter are a joyful and fundamental part of his dharma practice.
